Absolutely everything is ready to lift my engine out!
All really smooth.
But I just can't manage to remove the roll pin on the gear selector. I have tried various "tools" to punch it through,
Any tips?

I've just removed one and it is a pain.
My method was with the right size drift and I knocked it out from below and up and towards the clutch plate.
I suppose I really should have order the tool from minispares in advance.

I got one of these and it worked great. Only tricky bit is lining it up, but once you have that the pin comes out easily.

Put in reverse gear.
Use the minispares punch or suitable sized punch (you can even use a drill bit (use the non drilling end to knock pin through).
Most important thing is that whatever you use its the right size so it doesnt go inside the roll pin and spread it.
Again, reverse gear and it knocks up towards the gearbox casing and you can grab it and wiggle for the last bit. Never had to buy a tool from ebay, looks like someone is profiting from something that shouldnt really be a problem.

HAHAHAHAHA
That explains a lot!
I intended to approach the one nearest the gearbox, but i must of got disorientated when under the car and when i think about it was the one furthest from the GB. long day a work i guess.

My guess is a previous owners bodge....
Should be 2 roll pins for the coupling -part number RSP1416 (& one on the other end of the gearchange rod).
Can be difficult to get out sometimes but i've never seen the need to buy a 'specialist' tool, just a big hammer & the right sized drill/drift/length of metal rod or whatever i had to hand.

3/16" punch ( not a tapered end )
Have car in reverse

(you can even use a drill bit (use the non drilling end to knock pin through).
Be very, very careful if you use a drillbit. It's highly likely it'll shatter when hit hard enough and if you're under the car looking at it there's a chance a lump of it will end up in your eye. I'd go so far to say don't do it at all, just buy the correct size punch or the nifty looking tool that's now available on eBay.
