hey guys, been chasing a water leak. I found its coming in through the door. now its not the door seals it coming in through,  its the clip/plugs that attach the door card/trim to the door its self.

I spent up large on the door cards because I just couldn't find any local so I really want to try and stop them from becoming mush whilst also keeping the carpet dry too.

I have taped over all the other holes with some waterproof speed type tape,  it was factory taped but its still getting in through the clips.

so what has everyone done to stop water from getting through? I need to get it water tight so I can finally finish it off , I'm so so close now

thanks

window seals passing.. repair or replace. fit membrane on inside of door behind door cards. varnish rear of cards, spray waxoyl into door cavity. make sure drains at bottom of door are clear.

I had a similar problem on my car. Traced it to be coming in through the external window seal at the front as the rubber had shrunk slightly.

As mentioned check drain holes at the bottom of the door frame. There should be three. If the window regulator has been removed you needed to refit it using the putty type substance that was there when you removed.

The membrane is the next thing to worry about. This needs to be fitted or you will end up ruining your door cards.

Is the window seal making contact with the window the full width?? Has the door been reskinned and the top of the skin bowing out?? If so you can try to gently push the top of the skin in but be very careful. If the skin will not straighten then worst case scenario you will need to redo the skin.

If it's an old wiper seal then replace for new.

yeah so all new seals, all everything replaced, well new everything, I've sat inside the car with someone spraying a rain like mist over the doors, and I can see it dripping in through the holes that hold the door card to the door.

when I got the car it had no door trims the door parts were all in a box. car was striped for paint.  fast forward a few years now I have replaced everything recently and its just about finished

does this membrane go on the inside of the door itself? , I am just finding it had to see how to stop the water from coming in through the clips that hold the door trim on as they cant be glued/sealed or you would never get the trim of again without breaking it?

The membrane attaches to the door surface so basically behind the door card.

Is there a gap between the window and the wiper seal that fits on the top of the skin??

Had the same problem some time ago on my friends mpi. Changed all the seals (window iner and outer strip) and then it rained...
Water Was pouring out between the door card and the door.
They all are like that and my doors are all original so just poor design I think or rubber shortage... 😕
I noticed that the new outer seal rubber didn't go all the way and left a gap at the front and back of the door, so I used some silicone to make up the missing bit.
Can't get to the car right now so made a beautiful and realistic drawing of a door to show where I mean. 😁

As for the water shield, it's a film of plastic between the door and card, but won't seal the holes you talk about.

For the trim clip holes you could try getting some 3M Bodycaulk same material as goes round window regulator

ie, stays soft put a small piece over the the holes before you attach membrane ( its worth using proper membrane)

then reattach trim the clips will push through the caulk and form a seal . +1 on the ends of outer weather strips with silicone

we used to make a flap with membrane inside the door quite difficult but achievable to direct water down inside door and

out drain holes! used to spend at least half my working week back in the day fixing water ingress problems on used cars

most makes including Minis were like Tbags  :shades:  hope this is of some help to keep you enjoying your Mini.
