i am considering putting brighter bulbs in my centre binnacle however the only sensible answer i have had is putting led ones in, would that be a straight swap or would i have to do some wiring? also is there i can just get brighter normal bulbs from?

Don't change the ignition warning light .. LED doesn't work and stops it charging.

You should change to higher wattage bulbs as these just mean the gauges get hotter and then the holders melt!

Have a look around on the "Trusted" Mini or Classic car spares websites .. (ie not fleabay!)

i was only considering changing the ones that illuminate the numbers, the rest are fine, would i be able just to buy two and screw them in?

I've got white LED's in mine for auxiliary gauges and panel lights. I'd recommend them.

You could try http://www.moss-euro...dash-bulbs.html

Is you car positive or negative earth? LEDs are polarity sensitive

The MOSS bulbs Gazza posted the link for are about the only option in the U.S. for those of us with older British cars.  I personally have not invested in them but I have read reviews/discussions of them on other message boards.  So far people seem to be pleased with them.

Also as Gazza said, they are polarity sensitive.  I believe MOSS has them both, just make sure you buy the right ones.

I've put a set of LEDs in mine this week..great but as GAZZA 82 says DON'T CHANGE THE IGN BULB,leave it as tungsten.

These are SCREW IN .MInes a 91,went in great, look great at night.

got them on FLEABAY as well, they are made to fit mini.

look for "CHARLIECCU"  Dash + Dial Lighting in Vehicle Parts & Accessories...£10.50 free P+P

You get 4x5SMD bulbs + 5x8SMD forward facing bulbs for the warning lights BUT LIKE YOU'VE BEEN TOLD ..DON'T USE IN THE IGN BULB!!

also come in a choice of colours,

ALSO as GAZZA  mentioned NORMAL  CAPLESS LEDs are POLARITY SENSITIVE (only go in holder one way,you have to test them...reverse  them around if they don't light)

BUT THESE SCREW IN LEDS HAVE BASES JUST LIKE STANDARD OLD MINI BULBS,SO ARE MADE EARTH TO SCREW BODY,so you can't go wrong :proud:
