Hi folks, I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find any obvious explanation so I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light.

I've just had an electronic ignition and new coil installed and the timing set. Since then I've been unable to start the car with the choke on as it stutters and splutters (sounds too rich but was fine before) so I've been having to start choke less which, in fairness, the couple of times I've done it its been fine, we took it out Sunday on a decent 50 mile round trip and it didn't skip a beat. I've come out to it today to go the shop (3 minute drive) started it but it was coughing and juddering like hell. I let it warm up before driving off and went to test it and it was awful...coughing and spluttering all over the place, lack of power and trying to cut out. It also smells more fuelly than normal too. I'm assuming it's related to the new ignition What could be wrong?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Its a powerspark conversion kit. Everything was running great before hand. It's been suggested to me that although the timing was set on fitting and seemed ok it could have now messed up, does that sound probable? I've checked I'm getting a spark, cleaned the plugs, topped up the dash pot etc but it's still lumpy as anything. I took a vid earlier I'll try to upload...

This is how it's sounding, sounds worse in person. (sorry about the portrait recording, the sin of all sins)

maybe a daft one, but do have a 12V feed going to the module (assuming you have replaced points?). I know there can be issues with ballast coils and these parts (if you take the feed from the coil). Had a similar issue with my mg midget, ran a new 12v feed from the fuse box and bingo!

Hi mate, yea the guy that put it on for me did just that. Gonna have the timing set again and maybe have the mixture adjusted on Saturday, hopefully that will sort it!
Thanks

ph well worth a shot!. get the engine warm, then rotate the dizzy slowly until you get a smooth engine. the mixture shouldn't have been affected

Hi folks, so it's fixed! After ages trying to figure out what was wrong RE the new elec ignition and replacing the dizzy cap, spark plugs and re-setting the timing it turned out that the carb needle valve was worn! Replaced now and running sweet as anything! Naughty mini leading me up the garden path :P
