Hi All,
Had a 1986 Mayfair with a 1275 in it for a few years. Had it on the road for a year.
I've decided that tuning the A-Series is too expensive, unreliable and doesn't make great power.
Micra Engine conversion was the best option as most people seem to avoid any major bulkhead chopping and you can keep the inner wings if you want to.</p>
Haven't got a solid plan with regards to setup yet, but I'll definitely be keeping fuel injection, probably using a microsquirt.
But first things first need to build a subframe, here's what I got so far.
Jig to start with:
Front and Rear pick ups using 50x50x3 Angle
Used some 25x25x2 for the rearward jig mounts
Some weird angles trying to pick up on the rearward mounts
Tie rod pickups, had someone from work knock me up a couple of bushes.
Added some bracing front as back as the jig was flexing too much when I pulled the subframe out
Committed to the chop
Front piece is 50x50x2 Box, and the bracing from the towers down to the front is 25x25x2 box.
I'm going to weld a plate into the bottom of the tower to try and stiffen it up its 3mm plate.
From asking a few people I think I'm going to need thicker plate for the suspension mount. Most people seem to recommend 6mm.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Dan
