Just building my gearbox today and got the 3rd motion shaft in and put the 3rd motion bearing on and it seemed to seat then I put 1st motion shaft and bearing in and got it to seat put the circlip on and then noticed the 3rd motion bearing had moved back out slightly and I've been beating on it for the last 10 mins and it doesn't seem to move anywhere can anyone help. Please see the pictures as well.

Something doesn't look quite right about the gap between 3rd gear and the syncro. It may just be the camera angle though.

Either something isn't seated on the mainshaft correctly pushing the 3rd/4th gear syncro over or the 1st motion shaft hasn't seated correctly (bearing or baulk ring possible).

Or alternatively it's 1st gear that has been shunted over by something - as you know, there are fixed points on the mainshaft so it must be something in relation to those....

Yeah the gap between 3rd gear and synchro is quite large. But it's like the whole of the 3rd motion shaft is over to the speedo side of the gearbox

Get it all torqued up - it'll pull the shafts through the bearings further, leaving more space for everything to seat properly.

Just check the selector forks are still sitting correctly with the bell cranks.

Also, did you trial fit the 1st and 3rd motions shafts together on the bench before fitting them up in the case?

There could be an issue with the 3rd motion shaft nose bearing journal and / the the bearings itself and / or the same in the 1st motion shaft.

Has this gearset been together before?

Yeah the forks are on the bell cranks correctly. I honstly can't remember if I trial fitted the 1st and 3rd motion. And yeah it's been together before the only things I've changed is the 1st gear, 2nd gear, 1st/2nd hub and the fork. I'll take it apart again tomorrow and have a look again

Okay I've figured it out now. Took it apart again and realised that the 3/4 synchro hub centre part I put in the wrong way round when I rebuild it. Back in now and worked first time
