I have just completed a renovation of a 64 Mk1 and found the gear box jumps out of first gear. Is this a gearbox rebuild? I also have a spare 998 engine and gearbox which I could exchange but would like to keep the magic wand is it possible to fit the wand gearchange mechanism to the rod ghange

Rod change won't fit a mk1 tunnel. Guessworks is the gearbox guru on here - if it's possible to fit the magic wand to a rod change box he will know how.
