Hey more problems lol :D :D  Hope someone can help me anyway im restoring a mini i bought and im at the engine stage, almost have it complete and soon was hoping to give it a quick start on the floor while its out of the car incase theres any leaks etc. Now the engine is a 12H 1275 which originally had a single carb fitted and someone already had a 3 branch exhaust manifold which im using again just to start it. I bought a pair of twin hs2 carbs from a guy in Italt and attempted to bolt them on with the exhaust manifold but the heatshield on the carbs is fouling on the exhaust so i cant get the carbs to sit against the head. Anyone ever come across this? Ive attached some photos(not great) that might give you an idea

Thanks again for everyones help

Staring hard at the first picture I think you've got a 12G299 manifold which is not for a mini. You need a manifold with a 30degree inclination. You're going to need the float bowls on the carbs with the same inclination too, but you can just change the float bowl mounting rubber to do that.

Minispares or Burlen for SU parts:-
AUC1316
AUC1336
C-AEG488 is a good manifold if you want to buy new or it's a search for a second hand one.
(Sorry tapping on a phone or I'd have pasted links)

The float bowl is simply held on by a single bolt that passes right though the carb. If you're at all unsure of the condition of the carbs now is the time to think about refurbishing them.

They were fully rebuilt when i bought them but obviously maybe from an mg or something. So its just a case of removing the bolt and insert the different grommets?

Ian,

How far do the heatshields need to be moved out to clear the exhaust?

On some twin HS2s there is an alloy spacer about 1/4 inch thick between the manifold and the heat shields. And with some HS2 heat shields they are also stepped to give a bit more clearance.

Not quite, like all simple jobs they grow. Lets see....

You need to remove the self tapping screw that holds the link arm to the jet (care here the whole things under spring tension and sometimes the ferrule through which the screw passes is attached to the link arm but can be a separate brass piece which is easily lost). This will allow you to swing the link arm aside to gain better access to the bolt head.

If you're turning the float bowl by a further 10degrees I would say it's best to remove the jet from the float bowl entirely and replace the sealing glad AUD2194 to be on the safe side even if these are "newly refurbished". You definitely don't want any leaks!!!!

At this point you'll be able to undo the bolt holding the float bowl and replace the grommets. You can the replace the jet and reconnect the link arm (remembering this is under spring tension).

Yes, I've got the 5mm insulating gaskets

If you haven't got these they go between the carb and the heat shield (I think - it's dark and I'm not going outside to look) and you'll need six hs2 gaskets to fit it all together.

It looks like you can swap the heat shields around so the step in the heat shield should move the heat shield away from the exhaust manifold not towards it.

Your manifold is from an MG1100 so the angle should be OK, it is the position of the carb. bodies that is different (closer together than on a Cooper). Not a problem with your filters.
