So guys i was thinking of building up my mini with a twincam 16v kad system fuel injected, then my friends who has been into hillclimb motorsport said that the conversion can be very unreliable and very costly to repair amd suggested an 8port with bike carbs instead saying it still builds up phenomenal power...any advice on the power made by the 8 port bike carbs and is the twincam really unreliable for road use??

well,

lots of ways at looking at this, but basically any highly strung race type mini lump is going to be a bit unreliable, largly its rpm that kills/ wears things out so if you can produce the opower lower down your going to get somthing longer living,

a 16v thats not got mental cams in it will be good on the road, especially if its injected, just niocer to live with, also don't limit yourself to the Kad, there are other options such as the specialist components K1100 conversion, a standard K1100 head will git you to approx 130 hp.

If you are looking for more than that, turbo? its the most cost effective way of getting over 150-200hp.

8 ports are fine, but usually coslty to build, straight away your into billet cams and H beam conrods as the cam lobes will hit on std rods.

I would say your friends need educating !!

The KAD 16v conversion is very expensive, but it most definitely isn't unreliable.

Equally an 8 port isn't cheap - not quite as expensive as the 16v but probably not far off it in the end.

Irrespective of with you end up with, and irrespective of either injection or carbs, if you don't have access to a good, knowledgeable rolling road or tuning house then setting it up could be tricky.  If you have more guys who are experienced in Bike carbs over injection then they will favour what they know.  Poor set-up in terms of fueling or ignition will kill your expensive engine in a short space of time no matter which system you have.

Overall power depends on so many more things than just "this head vs that head".  Having said that a 16v can make upwards of 150bhp, where even an 8 port would be struggling.

IMHO of course.

Phil.

Are you absolutely sold on keeping the a-series? An engine conversion can sometimes be cheaper and usually more reliable than a highly tuned a-series engine.

My vauxhall swap cost me around £800-£900. Something to bear in mind.
