Hello, Ghost of Christmas-past here. Hope everyone's keeping well?

Just wondered what the current school of thought is on reviving late-MPIs out from long term storage? SirD has been gathering dust for quite some time and was last out on the roads well, too long ago. Hoping to at least revive him for some needed body work and fun this late Summer.

My last check in with those that knew was as follows for Mini-CPR:

  1. Charge up the battery
  2. Wheels back on and tyre pressures checked
  3. Brake fluid bleed through
  4. Coolant flush
  5. Injectors unplugged, spark plugs out
  6. Fuel in
  7. Turnover engine until oil pressure is restored
  8. Refit spark plugs and plug injectors back in
  9. Turn over engine with crossed fingers and toes
  10. Warm up and check vitals regularly

That about right, or is there something I've missed?

Gracias,

nev_payne

I think you can just pull the fuse for the injectors rather then unplugging them. Not sure it makes a difference though. I would check the oil. If it has been sitting for a long time, and there was condensation present, it could have set in. Kinda important to change the oil when hot but worth noting.

I'd also do a really good visual inspection of all rubber. Not sure your storage situation but I can tell you that mice seem to LOVE Minis. Mine sat for a winter, with me going in and out of it now and then and I STILL found evidence that I mouse was thinking about moving in. They love wires and rubber.

Change oil. The old stuff can turn acidic and attach seals. Make sure the battery can hold a charge, ideally it should have been trickle charged over the winter to keep the cells cycled as they can deteriorate. Pull coil pack plug before turning over, keep plug in. Run oil and water upto temperature and check for leaks.
