What's the black box under the dash on an MPI? I'm assuming some kind of electronic module? Injection or alarm?

Can it be moved out of sight, without any wiring?

4"x4" attached to the bulkhead?
I believe it's the alarm and you need to keep it plugged in otherwise your car won't work.
You could probably hide it under the lower shelf, depends on your plan for the dash...

Have you got s wooden dash? Is the black box your talking about on the passenger side if it is it's the alarm and you usually cannot see it because it is tucked up behind the dashboard. Just on the off chance it's not the black box on the drivers side below the lower dash rail near the drivers door? If so that is the main fuse box.

Under the dash rail, almost directly under the eyeball vent on the (rhd) drivers side

Not got a mini yet, hopefully about to take the plunge

Had originally avoided MPIs, as prefer without the airbag, but a nice one has come up.

Just wondered how hard it would be to move?

Yes it's the main fuse box, not impossible to move but would be quite a big undertaking getting the correct gauge wires etc and finding a suitable position for it. Can I ask why you are considering moving it.

Apologies for resurrecting a new thread, but has anyone ever moved an MPi fuse box?

Only want to get it out of sight, not too far!

If you want to spend a heck of a lot of time, money and effort, it could certainly be moved. Perhaps to the engine bay, then you could suffer all the fuse corrosion problems the older models do so well. This Woody Traveller went the other way.

Ironically, your pic is of the very car I'm considering! I'd be happy just to move it back (if there's space behind) or up behind the dash if there's space and enough wiring

The loom comes down to the box from the dash area so there would be enough length, however I don't think there would be space. 

The next issue would be that once moving the fusebox you'd be left with the welded on bracket (removable but requiring surgery) and a carpet with a hole in it, which may be difficult to match up to.

I've seen it moved under the dash before. The issue then is you'll have a bracket and a hole in the carpet where it was.

Bracket would be left to my master fabricator and a new carpet isn't too much of a worry compared to almost any other car, but good points

If it has the MPI carpet to match the interior you'd be surprised.

That said - it can't have as it wouldn't fit the longer floor pan so must have a custom/aftermarket set.  Could still be tricky to match though, given how old the conversion is.
