Hello , I have just registered to this forum . I am very new to Mini world . I am a new proud owner of a Mini Cooper 1996 , green and white. Absolutely love driving it . I hope this is the right place to post this .

Yesterday the car wouldn't start as my only key fob played up . From what I have learned , I need a specialist to reprogram the key fob to synchronise with the manufacturer immobiliser. The problem is I can't find the OBD plug . I can see the 5As unit but no sign of the connector . I looked under the passenger side under the dash board , driver sides , nothing !

An auto locksmith came out and have the same difficult .

I did manage to find two items that could possibly be the OBD plug . Any opinion is appreciated . I will try to upload pics of the 'plug'

Moved to injection section.

Plug isn't the right one.

Depends if it's an SPi or MPi, the plug on MPi is down next to heater on drivers side. On Spi it's the green 3 pin plug under the bonnet next to the servo.
It's probably easier to get your keyfobs repaired.

Okay this pic answers my question....you have an Spi.
That plugs for the engine, similar but green is for the 5AS

Not exactly the answer you are looking for regarding the OBD Plug but it this sounds very similar to a problem that's been posted before as I'm sure FlyingScot might have memory of, here's the post if you want a quick read up:
http://www.theminifo...te-help-please/

On the last page there is a post regarding the service Katsuro used to have his fob repaired, granted it was 3 years ago but I doubt pricing has changed much since then. £46 is a bargain as opposed to having to take out the full system.
Good luck!

I have recommended several people to Technozen and he can repair and refresh the keyfob saving a programming job. I have no connection with him, but I know he does a good job and is the master of the 5AS.

Programming the SPi is strait forward but most folks don't have the kit if you decide to go that way.

I am assuming the battery for the fob was checked by the auto locksmith?

Hope this is the one

I will try to contact the fob repairer tomorrow . From what I have gathered - as my fob is two buttons - this may require me to send the 5AS unit and the damaged key fob to repair. I hope not . But the attached pic hopefully is the OBD plug . I have an auto locksmith guy who can plug it up and program me a new key . Fingers crossed

Are you sure that it isn't a flat battery in the fob? If you replace it, then you need to press the lock or unlock (can't remember which) button 4 times to resync the fob with the 5AS. Worth a try. I have also had them where the small crystal (silver cylindrical can soldered to the board in the fob) has a broken leg, that can cause it but is an easy fix.

I think I need to negotiate a fee with Mr Brown (Technozen)....

He has a huge experience with the Lucas / TRW 5AS and has helped several members with keyfobs or the alarm unit itself
