Hello,

I have an adjustable engine steady on the top end drivers side of my engine which bolts directly into the bolt. Today I heard a loud knocking from my mini when accelerating and it turns out this bolt has sheared inside the block. I tried removing the sheared bolt but with no luck. There is another threaded hole 2" fwd of the sheared bolt hole which I could use instead. Thought I could use this instead but the steady does not adjust far enough. I believe the steady I have is the longer kind (150mm-180mm) anyone know of any longer steadies or have and ideas? Might have to bite the bullet and take it to a garage with the proper tools small drill,easy outs etc

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated

Although it sounds like you've only had one bolt in the engine end of the engine steady, is that how you've had it?

I now reliase on the engine end I do not have a bracket at all just a bolt going through the eye into the engine. This could be part of the problem! Cheers for the replies

Last question I promise. Has anyone used these repair kits? Where does the new bracket mount on to? As there are no other tappings on the block? The only bolts below it are the clutch housing bolts is this what it mounts to? Sure it will be cleare once I order it but was just curious

There are a few different kits to suit various setups.

You have the long bolt sheared, so we know you need one of the kits. But which kit depends on if you have a breather fitted to the transfer case. If you're unsure put a picture up of that area of the bay and I'm sure we can determine which kit you need

It's ok I have a breather and found the kit I need. The bracket bots on to the clutch housing bolts below. Thanks for your help

Don't try selling your car with one of these bodger's brackets in place. It really shouts "COWBOY" loudly. I don't even know why they are sold because removing a broken bolt or even repairing a stripped thread is not rocket science and has been covered here many times.
