An apology in advance as I've only had my 1996 Mini Mayfair a month or so. Still discovering it's 'quirks', Anyway. The Clock in the centre of the walnut dash panel, is no longer illuminated. I have a Haynes Manual. (1969 to 1996) the year of my car, but can't find what to do and how to do it in the electrical section. If it's a blown bulb. What type will it be? How do I get the clock out?

Help!

Jonathan

Hi,

The lot comes out in one swoop. The bulbs are Lucas LLB501 Capless, 12v, 5w.

The clocks are a group of 3 set in a plastic mould, with a printed circuit board on the back. The bulbs are in black pods which you pull out of the circuit board.

Take off the surround on the clocks them self, these can be a bit of a bugger, by pulling directly towards you. The clock pod is held in with 4 bolts, 2 top, 2 bottom on the side of the pod. Undo these and the clocks come out. The speedo cable will restrict how far you can pull the clocks forward, but you can release this when you get one hand behind to take it off.

I think he's actually meaning the time clock in the centre of the Rover walnut dash.
If so, the bulb comes out of the back of the clock with a simple half-turn, but the challenge is getting to it. If you can take the stereo out, you might just get a hand in, if not, you need to free up the walnut dash. It's held in place by three bolts. One at each end (reach up from the footwells right by the outside of the car) and one in the middle (remove the stereo and put your socket through). The Haynes manual covers this. The dash should then be able to tip forward. You can completely remove it now by disconnecting the various wires plus speedo cable, but the bulb for the time clock is easily accessible. Can't remember the type offhand I'm afraid.
