Hi all,

I'm having an issue on my '96 Rover Sprite where I need to pump the clutch after starting the engine before being able to put her into gear. Usually have to do this for about 30 seconds or so. My first thought was was clutch fluid so I bought some new Dot4 but was subsequently unable to find the master cylinder for clutch fluid, only the brake fluid. It doesn't show up in the Haynes either for 1275cc models.

Does anyone have any advice on the next things to check which could be causing this?

Many thanks,

Jamie

The clutch reservoir is next to the brake on the bulkhead above the pedalbox but if you are needing to pump it up then there is a fault in the system rather than just low fluid, that fluid is going somewhere. Check the clutch slave cylinder above the clutch casing, under the rubber boot should be dry but if it's wet then the slave cylinder is likely at fault, if not the master cylinder is at fault or a leak in the line.
