After a great day at Battlebridge classic car show i have come away with a set of manky looking twin carbs on a manifold for £50 (really regretting the purchase price now).

My question to you guys is what make/model/year are they from and are they worth rebuilding and using on my 1275 A+ engine or just sell on?

I have taken a picture with another manifold i have in the background which seem to have a different way of bolting to head , why ?

The manifold the carbs are on is stamped MOWOG 12A661 P2 with 1004 stamped above it.

The carbs are AUC870 and AUC871

The spare manifold i have is stamped MOWOG 12A-309 with P underneath .

Any advise on these items would be a great help to me and if they will fit my engine and indeed improve performance over a standard single ? (i think twins just look better though)

Thanks in advance  ;D

I think the 309 is from the very early Cooper - possibly even the 997.

The 661 is later and could be either a 998 cooper or Cooper S. Does it have another number engraved/stamped near it ?

I think carbs with thoses references were used on a number of vehicles, not just minis. But given that they are on a mini manifold there is a good chance of them being from a mini. Do they have the tag on the float chambers ? From that you can usually tell what car they were from.

IIRC if they were from a Cooper S they didn't have an open vent on one of the carbs as they didn't have a vacuum advance

Thanks for info and yes the 661 has 1004 stamped next to it, looks to be hand stamped .

Not sure what you mean about open vent but 1 carb has an air nipple/outlet on the outer side and the other does not if that`s what you mean ?

The tags on the chambers read as follows : AUC 912 AND AUD 69R

Cheers Chris

Will either manifold and/or carbs suit my 1275 A+ engine ?

No advantage over your current single carb on a standard 1275, and possible without a rebuild a source of a different idle/stall at every opportunity

The manifold the carbs are on is stamped MOWOG 12A661 P2 with 1004 stamped above it.

The inlet manifold is from a 998 Cooper

The spare manifold i have is stamped MOWOG 12A-309 with P underneath

That inlet is from a 997 Mini Cooper

AUD 69 carbs are from an MG 1100

Personally, I prefer twins over a single larger carb. However, yours do look like they would benefit from a rebuild - particularly as they weren't originally a matched pair.

Just out of interest, does it look like the manifold has been modified ? The recess for the rings does look to be as pronounced as it should be. That may be just because I'm looking at the pics on a phone.

Lots of pro tuners, as well as home tuners, used the original casting as a base and opened up the throats a little.
