I'm loving the sound of the 2 inch exhaust on my 1293, at least on the lanes around my way. However on the motorway the 6000rpm drone can get annoying.

I've used removable baffles on my bikes in the past, with varying degrees of success.  Has anyone here used removable baffles on their mini, which one did you use, did it give you flat spots or affect fueling?

Considering these can be bought relatively cheaply on fleabay, I'm willing to try it before I think about replacing the silencer on the car.

How long are you spending at 6000rpm?

What diff have you got to be using 6000rpm on motorways ? and what spec is the engine? 2" on a Mini is a bit big even for a 1293, is your current silencer just burnt out ? you could fit a RC40 twin box they are not to loud. I have a Maniflow single box on mine the twin RC40 was to quiet.

3.4 final drive with MG Turbo gearbox. To be honest I've not got 100% faith in the Tacho, but 6k on the clock is about 70mph on the gps.

The exhaust is only a few thousand miles old, if the previous owner is to be believed.

If you have a 3.44 and running 165/70 on 10" wheels then you should be getting 4000 RPM at 70, if you are sitting at 6000 RPM you are doing 100Mph so either your speedo or tach is out.

But adding a second silencer will probably be a better bet than a baffle but if a baffle is cheap then might be worth a shot  and see how it affects running.

Speedo is definitely way out lol, but that's another problem for another day. The speed was verified on GPS, so guess that means my tach is out too.

Will have a look into getting twin box exhaust, when money allows, since I agree that's the proper way of doing things.

Just found this thread about over reading tacho http://www.theminifo...r-over-reading/

And yes I have a cream coloured rev counter from an MPI, which means that I officially can't trust anything any of the dials in my car say.

I used removable baffles in my twin centre exit because of the drone. Did make a difference. I had one in each tail pipe and then put one in the centre section as well. Engine seamed to pul better as well. Maybe added more back pressure
