Hi there,

New to the Mini scene I recently purchased a Mk 2 as a full restoration project. Having looked at the identification plate I came to the conclusion it is a Mk2 Super de luxe.

However when stripping down the engine I've discovered various different identification numbers.

Head stamp - 12G202 997 cooper??

Block - 8G45 RN78337 Gold seal 850?

Transmission Case - 22A1288

Can anyone shed any light on what it may be, or is it just a mix of various parts?

Thanks

Jack

Probably a mix, the 202 head was also used on the Austin 1100's

The 8G45 is a Gold Seal Reconditioned 850 engine, that has the later 'dry' tail crank.
