As I was looking out of the window people watching, brakes popped into my train of thought, don't ask how... but...

I noticed on a recent episode of wheeler dealers, Edd China used high friction coefficient Kevlar brake shoes on a Ovlov PV544 instead of doing a disc conversion.

Does anyone produce these for a mini?  I know you can get EBC Green stuff pads for front discs and believe they are a kevlar compound. However, I'm mainly asking regarding rear drums and know this would benefit those who run drums all round.

I've searched on Minispares and Minisport. Minisport seem to do a 'race/rally' set of Mintex shoes (MLR5M20) but don't tell you their composition.

Anyone got any thoughts on this or experience with the MRL5M20 shoes?

The rear brakes on a Classic Mini do very little work and standard good quality linings are normally fine.
For the fronts with disc brakes the Carbon-Metallic pads as sold by Mini Spares are superb. For a drum brake car it is unlikely to need anything special as it will not normally be driven hard enough.

Might have to try the MS carbon pads next as my current Mintex 1144's are getting low, the only thing holding me back is the price !, my experience of green stuff is that they are brilliant to start with, then after a while they fall off a cliff and turn into blocks of wood with no stopping power !

So, out of interest, what are the best high friction / low fade brake shoes available for Mini twin leading shoe front brakes?

Fair enough, I haven't used green stuff pads I have the normal ones and I haven't been wanting any more stopping power. I realise the rears do very little just wondering if it is worth it. I suppose if youve got a serious spec engine then it's worth a thought but most people go for four pots
