What parts consist of a stage 1 for a SPi...?

Iv so far converted to Maniflow LCB with straight through and Im awaiting delivery of a K&N filter....

What else would be needed for a SPi to be considered at stage 1 tune...?

I know with the carb engines its change the needle as well as the exhaust and filter, can the SPi ECU be chipped/reprogrammed....?

Fanx for any input...

Forget stages.  Fit a modified cylinder head, performance cam, such as a Kent 266, K&N filter, full Maniflow 1.75'' exhaust and that should get it going much better, and should sound much nicer. :shades:  :highfive:

Why is an LCB a waste of time....?

I fitted the LCB last week and it has cured a problem with hesitation and almost stalling when pulling away...

It has also cured an overfuelling problem too.....

BUT

I also swapped the inlet manifold for one that wasn't blocked with crud so the water had chance to get round to the CTS and thus telling the ECU to keep chucking fuel into the engine.... that might have cured the hesitation and overfuelling at the same time...

It does seem to be much more responsive than it used to be with the LCB fitted...

I did a little video of how it sounds now .... but TMF wont let me link it... :/

MEMS ECU cannot be reprogrammed or chipped. Head, cam, airbox filter mods rc40 rear box.

Mini freak - you've probably cured it with changing the coolant temp sensor.. mine used to have a hesitant spot at 3k.

I'd do as others have said, stick with the original air box and throw a k&n in there, cam, head and more free flowing rear box. I've got a decat and maniflow (cat back) on mine too.

Don't bother with a filter that doesn't use the air box, I've tried several and the SPi system ran better with the original box imo (albeit quietier)

Also, ensure that all of your vacuum pipe elbows are tight and not leaking. They're not expensive and can be surprising how much of an effect they can have if they begin to leak.

I changed the CTS a couple weeks ago and it made no difference at all...

Iv also changed all vacuum pipes with silicone tubing, from rear of TB to little box then to ECU, made no difference...

Iv also got a de-cat fitted, LCB to pipe then to no make stainless backbox... no middle box...

Fitting these has made a huge difference to the way the engine now runs, its much more responsive and has no hesitation at all, at any given revs....

I have heard about fitting a K&N will make it run worse BUT Iv also read that people dont fit the sensor that goes into the airbox too, so that may have an effect on how the K&N works...

I'll fit the K&N and see what happens, if it goes to ******* then I'll go back to the original airbox and filter and leave it at that....

Thanks for the responses :)

The K&N replacement element does make a difference. It's only slight, but i found my car ran smoother and had more lower down torque.
