I have purchased the full windscreen surround from mini spares, hopefully going to make a start on installation the weekend, anyone fitted one of these and got any tips to help

Ah okay lol WILL THAT PANEL WOULD Be SPOT WELDED ALONG THE Roof Gutter DOWN BOTH FRON seams under the covers along the top dash rail and also front scuttle area it goes below the wings and also has closing panels under the scuttle ends which are attached to the inner wing area there's a lot of spot welds and drill bits required if your going for a direct swap. I take it there's no front end attached ?

Most panels have been replaced so front currently only has new inner wings and bulkhead in position, I have cut off old scuttle but need to repair further up than scuttle panel so have bought the full panel, my main concern is if anything will move when I take out old one with inner roof rail and how difficult it is to separate from the roof

Does it really need the top bit? I'd be looking to join some where on the a pillars if possible. I've always been led to understand that the roller weld round puts some tension in the car, hence often needing to give the drivers side a pillar a tweak back in line when the A post has been off. I'd be expecting some movement when you get that bit out.. good luck!

I would reckon that going by some of the other jobs you have done it should not be a problem

for you , would use a brace across A pillars and down onto door step flange.

the roller welds on roof can be a bit trouble some to split and not damage roof!

I have replaced roof skins and van side panels in the past.

Thanks, have been thinking about it and will do as you mention and put a brace across top of door frame from one side to the other, think that will keep it in position, then try to chop out the old one, I will repair top of doorframe side before removing complete panel and then I will retain the top corner in correct position. I don't think there is much to worry about apart from separating the panel from the roof due to the roll spot welding, will just take my time.

Hi Daz,

with regard to separating the top of the panel, I had to do this when replacing a full 1/4 panel. I cut a close to the roof-line as a could and then using a powerfile with a 40grit band just 'gound' the remaining panel leaving the roof flange untouched - took a while but was fairly straight forward.

good luck

Chris

Thanks, will try that as I have some 40 grit belts, once I have this repair done rest is easier I have been dreading doing the roof repairs for a while now.
