I need to buy a crank pulley and dampener for my specialist components 16v engine, I am a litter uncertain ti what I actually need.

The block is a SPI block.

I would have thought specialist components would supply a crank pulley as it would need a specific design to drive the cam belt.

just crept down to the garage to look at the kit. It looks like there is a pulley for the cam belt but i still need a pulley for the v belt to run the water pump and alternator.

The piccy on their website shows a standard V belt water pump pulley, so no reason to expect the crank pulley is any different.

It's still the same crank assembly you're after damping.

MED & KAD have offerings

Romac are good, but you want to be sure that what ever Damper you choose, it suits your engine. In this regards, I'd suggest talking with a manufacturer of them who doesn't just make them, but understands how they work and what's needed. A wrong selection can end up with a busted crank in short order.

trouble i have is I donate actually know what the crank pulley and dampener look like. I have never seen one in person.

I think I will go for the Med version. t

Here is the SC cam pelt pulley and the SC instructions outlining a modification of the crank pulley:

And here is a pic i picked up from here: does it have a dampener or just the new SC pulley and standard crank pulley?

That bit of tin they tell you to discard is just a crud thrower, come bit to stop the belt getting wedged against the timing cover. The black bit in the other piccy looks like the factory damper after it's been removed to clear those shiny pulleys. I think some of those after-market pulley may be a bigger diameter, maybe get one with a built in trigger wheel?

There a piccies on line of the kad ones with the teeth on either side of the damper.

You should have one on the old engine.

In that case I would drop SC an email to ask them what they souks see as a good alternative. As many of the ones from MED or KAD have trigger wheels that bolt on directly and may or may not be suitable.

I don't think it will be that hard , since their kit is designed for the standard A+ damper and aftermarket dampers replace that.

Looks like you just need everything to the outside of the belt pulley and an arrangement for mounting the crank sensor that will be clear of your cam drive gubbins. A larger diameter damper or tooth wheel may complicate things if you try to mix 'n match.

I used a standard spi damper pulley on my 1098 when I fitted the sc trigger wheel, just remove the rivets for the thrower plate. Should come with the longer crank bolt (cap head type).

Attached File  rps20160529_120854_725.jpg   34.53K   10 downloads This is the spi pulley with the sc trigger wheel which fits inside. Obviously looks a bit different with cambelt kit, plus mine being auto, had a few pick-up location issues with the standard mount.
