High Co2 Reading But Not By Much!

Best Answer macauley151 , 06 June 2016 - 02:18 PM

No additives - snake oil...

Are basics done, not just air and oil what about fuel filter and tappets set?

Also what ECT are you seeing ( I think you said you have diagnostics ?) thermostat an 88 degree?

FS

fuel filter is new (3K on the car since). tappets were set when installing the engine. 28 map. thermo at 91.

took it to the MOT station after fitting the new catalyst, plugs and air filter. and passed straight away.

co2 - 0.08

PPM - 28

Lambda - 1.03

:) now its back on the road after a 3 year battle.

thanks all for there input.

So as the title said really, I've had an MOT yesterday on my car and the only thing it has failed on was the co2.

the reading were:

Co2 : 1.28  Fail

PPM : 158  PASS

Lambda : 1.03  PASS

Is there anything i can do?

I've had the car on a diagnostics and everything is working perfect as its all new. including the new BOSCH lambda.

The garage is saying they can adjust the fuel mixture using a machine to weaken the pulse but I'm not sure this is even possible. I don't want them touching the electronic system if absolutely necessary.

ordered a new catalytic converter as a precaution so will be putting that on soon but is there anything else i can do to pass this? been a 3 year battle and I'm so close...

Thanks, Macauley

Try taking it for a "spirited" drive and make sure the cat is very hot before they test it.

I'd double check the connections for the Lambda sensor too (just in case)

+1 for a spirited drive. Even better if you give it an oil change first. Had a friends Astra 1.6 fail on emissions so I took it up the road at 70 mph in third for 4 miles and it flew through the MOT.   After he collected the car he said " I don`t know what you`ve done to it but its really lively"  :) :)

Also check all the rubber pipes, elbows etc for splits.

And take it for a spirited drive, try and get it into the test centre whilst the engine is nice and hot.

As mentioned, a service, clean air filter etc may help

I have all new vacuum pipes fitted with a map pressure of 36Mpa. New oil as its had an engine change in the last month.

yesterday it was given a good blast as its been sat for 2 years. switched off when hot for 5 minutes and then straight into the test.

is there any additives i could add to lower its co2?

Thanks, Macauley

I'd check the air filter is relatively clean too

Fuel additives like redex may help but i doubt they would make much of a difference

Is it an MPI?

Then the injectors can be suspected.

When they are not working well, this causes fuel imbalance and problems with emissions.

I've just placed new plugs and filter in the car tonight with a new catalytic converter and will be taking it to a garage tomorrow to see if theres any difference
