I shall soon be flushing the cooling system on my Mini Thirty and as part of the work will be replacing the thermostat and rad cap as a matter of course. I understand that the original thermostat is 82 degrees, but read on the Minispares website that an 88 degree thermostat is best for unleaded engines due to unleaded burning better in a hotter engine. I think that I am right in saying that the 1989 cars were the first that could run on unleaded, although they were also able to run on leaded due to no cat being fitted. Presumably they were fitted with a thermostat that would provide suitable engine temperature for either. My previous Italian Job was a 1275 with a cat and had an 88 degree thermostat as standard, although an electric cooling fan was also fitted as standard for when it ran too hot in the summer. I would be grateful for opinions please!

82 or 88, your choice, both work fine
