Hi, I have just purchased a Rover Mini (Mayfair 94) which I am looking to try and restore to it's former glory! I purchased it knowing it failed it's MOT, however I am not a mini expert so was looking for some guidance.

It failed for the nearside and offside rear subframe mounts being 'excessively corroded in prescribed area'. I am trying to work out if this requires a subframe, just the mounts or something a whole lot worse?! I would like to get it back on the road fairly quickly but any guidance on how to rectify this would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Chris

it could be anything. ask the tester why they failed it.

something is rusty. subframe or body.

It sounds like the heel board ends are corroded but pictures would help us to give you a better picture of what needs doing.

As Carlos has pointed out - heelboard is a common corrosion hotspot but also check the boot floor where the rear trunnions are bolted up.

Well the boot floor has holes in it I know, from what I could see mostly towards the rear (see pic). I pick the car up on Monday so will have a closer look at this area. When I went to see the car I had a very quick look at the subframe which looked like it had some surface corrosion but in fairly good nick. When I get the car i will have a closer look underneath.

Could these holes in the boot be classed as rear subframe mounting? I saw on mini spares they sell a repair patch for the area in question.....

not what the tester said

'excessively corroded in prescribed area'

and yes that could be it or one of many.
