Uneven Wear 7" Brake Pads Between Front Left And Right Wheels.

Hi, 

 

recently i noticed my right side brakes are pretty worn out, as i was preparing to change out the pads, i noticed the right side had dramatically more brake pad left. What can be the cause of this? is there some brake fluid distribution that may give more pressure to the right side of the car than the left? 

 

here are some pics of my front brakes. they are 7" discs

Sticking caliper pistons - calipers need an overhaul

If I can suggest, don't worry about which side may or may not be sticking, Overhaul both sides and it wouldn't hurt to look at the Rear Wheel Cylinders and Master Cylinder while you're got your hands covered in brake fluid.

 

Seal kits are fairly cheap and the whole job should only take a good day. You'll be surprised at the difference it will make.

It might well be a sticking caliper but it could just as likely be:

1) a brake hose collapsing internally and/or
2) partially down to the surface of the disc

Did you replace the pads yourself last time they were done?

Looking at the picture it does look like the piston has corrosion on it, if so they would all need renewing, I changed mine for stainless rather than chromed steel to prevent future corrosion. If you don't change the pistons they will wreck any new seals in a very short space of time. The Haynes manual covers this.

62S makes a good point about brake hoses. Not the first thing to consider with this but just replace them in case.

 

I have just spent hours and hours (including getting and installing a master cylinder repair kit from the other side of the world) on a rare non-Mini trying to sort out a problem. Turned out to be a brake flexi causing the issue that looked like new (from the outside....)

I had a clutch flexi hose collapse internally. It turned the car into a semi automatic on the way back from work :mmkay:

Also had quite a few show themselves during bleeding as the fluid won`t shoot out.

I would go with Moke Spider and treat your brakes to an overhaul as lets face it 7" are bad enough in perfect condition and make sure you use genuine AP Lockhead seals as I had fitment issues with non gen on 7" calipers.

Also get some braided hoses.
