Hello to you good mini people

painfully edging along in my engine build,

I tend to be very wary of gaskets and like everyone without exception hate leaks

the gearbox speedo drive cover has a few bolts that are in pretty tight with blue threadlock and a very dry hard set gasket - so I suppose people do not want it to leak

if I can torque all the bolts down evenly that would help too

can't find the figure in the manual or on the site - I have looked honest

I am guessing it would be around 18 ft/lbs but that is just what the figure is for the diff housing cover

any help very much appreciated - all these little details count for so much and I want to do my darnest best to not have a leaky box or engine for that matter

a very big thank you if you can help me out here

Your intuition is correct. 25Nm or 18 ft.lbs is the figure. For you info the 2 small cover plate bolts and speedo drive clamping plate bolt are both 8Nm or about 6 ft.lbs.

And the speedo cable should be as tight as you can get it by hand, as there is no way of using a torque wrench on it. If it comes loose, gentle use of pliers may get it a bit tighter.

I mention this because it has caused me aggro in the past. It is a lot easier to fit the cable at that end with the engine/box out of the car, and connect to the speedo later. That also makes gentle use of a tool somewhat simpler.

Apologies if you knew that already. I think my grandmother already knows how to suck eggs, but maybe some beginner out there can avoid skinned knuckles or worse...
