oh no! the front pully has fallen off for the second time this year! even with thread lock and the special longer bolt from minisspares! this time its taken the woodruff key with it. i don't think the belt drive arrangement i am using is helping much. my question is can i remove all the belt timing gear with the engine in situ, and replace it with the more common duplex arrangement? can i lock the camshaft/crank to stop it moving? i don't really wanto time it up again.

or if i keep it, because to be honest i can't really fault it, how can i lock the pully on there properly?

Yes you can...

Obviously need to remove radiator etc to gain access..

To lock the crank, remove the starter motor and either use special tool or large flat screw driver to lock the crank with the flywheel ring gear ( as you would when removing the flywheel )

Ah, sorry, locking the crank/cam, no, and you'll need to re-time it anyway if you are using variable timing gear because of manfucaturing differences, otherwise just use fixed timing gear and then it's just dot-to-dot.

AH bums. these i was thinking if everything was kept solid i could just swap over the pullys and it would still be timed in.

another thing! are those woodruf keys easy to replace, as i don't have one anymore :0( the tail end of the crank looks ok, not to damaged by the way.
