Nylon Ql5000 U Joint Problem

Best Answer driftz , 15 June 2016 - 07:22 PM

Fixed!!! There was a needle that had fallen down on two of the cups. Also there was an excessive of grease in the cups not allowing them to fully seat. Pre bending the u bolts to match the holes in the drive shafts also made installing them so much easier. Hope this helps anyone with similar install issues. Thanks for the help!! Tried to install these http://www.minimania...zel-Roller-Type U joints today to replace my stock rubber ones that are hitting the exhaust manifold, and after an hour of cursing not being able to fit them, I noticed the reason for my trouble was that the grooves in the nylon cups are considerably wider (cut further to the ends) than the bolt holes on the driveshafts. Needless to say this makes it damn near impossible to line up the U bolts. Even when I managed to get 2 U bolts through, they were putting so much undue stress on the inside of the nylon cup that It started to crack it! Any else had issues with these?

Sounds like a needle from one of the bearings has slipped out and is sitting in the bottom of the cup.

its possible but would be surprising as both of them have the same problem on all sides, notice right side is perfectly centered and left is about half way out. doesn't look like much but because they are solid there is no wiggle room9bc54x.jpg

here is another with the old vs new, if you look carefully you can see that the grooves are in fact farther out than stock

It could be a needle that's come out or simply the centre crucifix sitting up on the seal.

Can you post up a pic of them so we can see the flat side?

With them out, if you push by hand down on the cups, does it feel solid or spongy?

Are each one the same both ways?

Ya they feel solid, I even used a large wrench to give them a squeeze make sure the cups were fully seated. It was the same issue with both u joints. I will remove and pull them apart to make sure there are no obstructions

If a needle has come out is it possible to put it back in or is the cup shot?
