Hello, hello, hello and hello

I have been trying to push ahead with my engine build, and always having to face the next challenge

the main one being running out of funds fast

I have a 1993 japanese spec SPI injection it has the really really really and I'll say it again really cr*ppy

pressure fit block to oil filter pipe with two 11/16 UNF fittings one at either end

the minispares pipes are 60 quid before shipping - ouch !!!!

can I do something to get this pipe to hold up

it looks like the ends of the pipes need 'flaring' a little to hold the bolts on more securely, otherwise the pipe can just be pulled out

very silly design, someone should be hit on the head for making that

any fixes other than spending lots of money would be appreciated

thanks again for looking

You are spot on when you say it's a silly design. It's also one that can fail and empty your engine of oil pretty sharpish. I'd advise fitting the braded hose upgrade (MiniSpares, DSN, minisport all do the same sort of thing) as it's much more reliable. It's also a doddle to fit. Not cheap, but then again a knackered engine from a major oil leak is much dearer 😋

I'd get the braided hose. They also improve flow apperantly.

Because I'm a cheap git and I also wanted to future proof it in case I needed to fit an oil cooler at a later date, I did mine like this:

I don't know how much things cost in Japan or their availability, but you could get 2 unions - 11/16 unf to say 1/2 BSP or AN8 and then get a braided pipe to suit.  I got my pipe from a local hydraulic pipe company.

Mine including the unions came to about £35.

Hope this helps.

@smackfiend

that's excellent have you got a link to your build thread your car looks great

I found a dude on ebay that sells a very nice one with no reducer on it for 37quid so for that price it's not worth making my own

but yes like you found out I am sure there is a parts supplier somewhere with tube and the unf fittings for a decent price

minispares are an amazing company but my budget is sooooo tight right now
