Hi. The indictator/wiper switches on my mk6 1995 mayfair are damaged. the clamp which secures them has snapped so now they move freely when operated. I looked for new ones but can only find ones for my year of car with one indicator stalk. My question is....

Do I need to buy both the single stalk and then the other stalk seperatly? I dont think there is anything wrong with the switches I have, so can I just buy the single unit with the clamp then fit my old wiper switch to it? how do they fasten together? I read somewhere the clamp can be fixed with a jubilee clap and some self tapping screws. Can anyone elaborate on this?

Also, only the slow and single wipe settings work. the fast speed does nothing. Will a new stalk fix this or is it more likely to be some other component the is stopping the fast speed setting from working?

One last thing,.....I notice that the indicators dont always cancel, but I'm guessing this it just because the whole switch unit is loose??

Thanks in advance.

Steve.

You can buy stalks separately or a whole assembly. That clamp is very easy to over tighten (i.e. break) and they become brittle after 20 years or so...

As for slow and single wipes with no "speed wipe" - this is probably an issue with your wiper motors although it could be the switch.

eBay is your friend...  There are usually stalks on eBay from all around Europe for £15/20 ish as folks break cars or "upgrade".

Just be sure to get exactly what you need to replace your originals - the thing to look for is the connector - make sure the plug is exactly

the same as yours. There were many, many version of the indicator/wiper stalk assemblies and any that have exactly the same connector as yours will work - but look carefully.

The issue of indicators cancelling is a small plastic widget which sticks out from the assembly into the steering wheel. If it's worn it will fail.

Best wishes

Monty

That will more likely be down to the park switch on the back of the wiper motor.

As a side note the wiper stalk is then fitted to the holes on the rhs of the plate(3 hex head screws) don't worry about springs etc flying everywhere once opened up... What I do is fit the new indicator stalk then transfer the wiper stalk whilst in the car
