Hello all!

This has probably been done before but I've read so many contrasting posts and articles on this. I'm hoping to get my Mini back on the road soon (has been SORN for just over a year) and I'm wondering what needs to be done first, in terms of tax, insurance and MOT. I originally thought that you could get an MOT done first without tax and insurance, but have since heard that insurance should be sorted before this?

Cheers!

Get the car insured first. tax online, then take it to the nearest MOT station, pre booked. I don't think you need to provide proof of insurance now when taxing the car. :highfive:

You can't tax without a valid mot can you? It checks your insurance and mot status electronically when you go online.

Don't you need to have an MOT to tax the car?

You can't tax a car without MOT.

As mentioned, insure it, get it booked in for an mot.

Once mot'd get it taxed

Hi,

My Mini was on SORN and insured as it's been a "complete" car for a few years now.

All I did was pre-book the MOT test and was informed I was legal to drive the car directly to the MOT station.

After the MOT, I drove it directly back home then taxed it on-line. There was a short delay between the end of the MOT test and the pass certificate being issued on the DVLA database though.

Cheers, Steve.
