Having just rebuilt the Innocenti Engine with Brett Simms 12g940 Head Comp 10.2:1 Kent 266 Cam, 3.44:1 Diff,  RC40 and twin HS2 Carbs I want to use some richer needles.  Vizards book gives a good starting point but the codes are fixed needles.

Currently the Innocenti Carbs have AAP Needles

Any suggestions what to start with or recommendations for rolling road in the south coast (Poole way?)

Thanks

Slarks Race Engineering are in Salisbury. If your planning on a rolling road session, its the only way to tune it properly and money well spent. Let them sort out what needles are suitable rather than waste money on needles that may not be used anyway. Hopefully you can make it to the garage with the needles you have already.

Yep, slarks all the way. Taken several minis and always gets the best out of them. They're in amesbury. Neil has a great stock of needles but burlen fuel systems are down the road if he hasn't got what you need.

Great sounds like a plan.  Will tie it in with the trip over to the UK.  I think you are right get it on the rolling road to be tuned up correctly.

Thx

Nick

I'm running very similar spec to yours. QA needles with blue springs work for me. You could use one of the needle compare software packages to find the closest swing needle.

But needed lot of tweaking of the dizzy advance curve to get running well throughout the range, if you don't get this bit right it won't sing.

Carbon

I have swapped out the original paper filters which were compressed in the Std Coopers Twin Carb Air Box and caused it to run rich.

When on the dyno (Slarks) the air filters were taken out and ran up which whilst unscientific unleashed another 5-7hp.

I have now K&N replacement filters in original air box and it seems to breath better and runs leaner.

I have changed the needles from the Std AAP (Innocenti) to AAQ.  Just slightly richer following a similar curve.  The car runs very well now and pulls stronger throughout the rev range.

Its very drivable and when funds and time allow will look at upgrading the exhaust and Carbs which will complement the Head and Cam.

Great update. Can I ask what type of rockers you're using with the MD266?

And for exhaust the twin box RC40 won't be giving away much (if any) power compared to other systems.

Im still using the minispares forged rockers and as per your recommendation looking at the Calver 1.4 Rockers.  Im running a cooper freeflow and twin box centre RC40.

I was running the Minispares forged S rockers, even when fitted with offset bushes these still only give 8mm of lift at the valve. I reckon the ratio on this set-up is something like 1.25. But a massive improvement over the sintered A+ rockers they replaced.

I have just fitted a set of the Minispares 1.5 forged rockers. Based on all of the comments I was expecting to see a big drop in low speed torque but this does not seem to be the case. And mid range feels stronger - only run for a few miles so can't yet comment on full potential.

Key point with the MD266 profile is that it only has about 260 thou lift at the lobe, which is almost identical to a standard cam. A lot of the other 'modern' fast road profiles are running with 280 thou or more lift at lobe.

I'm also running Maniflow freeflow and twin box RC40
