John Cooper Garages, East Preston and Ferring, closed ten years ago. John Cooper's son, Mike, sold the "John Cooper Works" brand to BMW although this brand was only created around 1999. Mike Cooper appears to retain the rights for the Cooper Car Company and collaborates with MiniSport on Cooper branded products.

Two of John Cooper's senior technicians now have their own garages and considerable knowledge:

Tony Franks at MINI Motor Sport in Shoreham-by-Sea

Kevin Fulbrook at Sussex Road and Race in Littlehampton

Record keeping is more or less non existing unfortunately. You can try the john cooper garages club on Facebook which includes owners and ex employees of JCG, but without wanting to dampen your expectations, unless it was particularly memorable you might struggle to get any info.

On the plus side, there are plenty of knowledgable people on there

Unfortunately MaxAndPaddy is correct. It has caused great frustration to many. It is not even clear if proper records were kept. Mike Cooper does not have any nor does Tony Franks nor does Chris Dawson who handled the admin side of work carried out at John Cooper Garages.

JCG sold most of their early kits in boxes to be installed by others.

There is rumoured to be an ex-Cooper employee with records but these may only relate to late 1990s conversions and he is not giving away any information just yet.

Their are several registers that are attempting to build up data for the different types of conversion and there is one Facebook group that might be particularly helpful to you. Look up:

Thanks guys had a look at facebook

Cannot see it as a register as yet,

though one entry did show (same order) similar markings to what is on my engine,

from that happy enough to say this is a ex works engine.

Happy Dayz
