Hi everyone, yesterday I was driving my mpi mini ('99) to Santa pod. This is never usually a problem as I have owned the car for 12 years, drive it everyday, and it's never put a foot wrong. Till yesterday I was on the motorway and pulled into the services. Came back out to the mini, turned the immobiliser off, went to start her up... Nothing. There's no crank at all, just silence😳 The fuel pump is working as you can hear it when I turn the ignition on, I have plenty of voltage showing too. So I jumped it off and it fires up no problem. But I came back tonight after having to jump it off everytime i stopped😂 Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Starter motor works when I bridge the solinoid. There is no power going to the triger switch for the starter.

Might be stating the obvious here but I'd check these :

1. Are your battery lead clamps both tight ...loose clamps would mean that only a jump would turn the starter but low amp items like fuel pump would still work.

2. Does the solenoid click on low amp (no jump)?

3. Do your instruments/ignition lights work when the starter doesn't?

We had a similar prob and it turned out to be a broken wire from the ignition switch.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. We tested and there is no power on the trigger wire on to starter. I was also told it could be a relay. But I'm wondering where abouts it is? Is it built in to the black box on top of the servo? Thanks again.

The relay pack on top of the brake cage is where the starter relay is located. Worth swapping it with a working one to see if it fixes. Otherwise they're around £50 if I remember correctly.
