I'm about to start preparing my shell for a repaint and would like to know what colour scotch pad I should get to key the sound original paintwork?

On Project Erm we used the red ones as well as various grades of paper but that was a bare metal job.

Witch is better though? The scotch pad method Edward china seams keen on or the wet 'n' dry method?

The pads give a very nice finish. I use the Mirka pads which you can get on eBay, 10of each "very fine" and "Ultra fine" for £11.50 inc postage.

Red are classed as Very Fine which would be fine to use.

However in work (a bodyshop) we would key off the paint first using roughly about 500 grit sanding discs on an air sander and then scotch it.

You can buy a "scuffing" paste too. We use one in work from KENT called "Abraprep" (Can also get ones from Farecla) Put a bit on the scotch and use wet. Easier to scotch off and will key it a bit better with a more even key throughout.
