Hello,

I just bought me a mini, I'm completely new to all of this but I know it needs some cosmetic work (rust) and I need a good garage, can anyone recommend a place for my new pride and joy in Leeds, east preferably, with experience and honesty, it's really important for me to find a trustworthy place, if the rust isn't repaired properly I'm just wasting money, she's a keeper and will be a daily driver so I need to have it done right. Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

The fob/immobiliser has me a bit stumped, how does it work?

I have 2 identical sets, both worn, the seller told me the batteries need replacing. It doesn't seem to lock/unlock the car, I have to lock the passenger side from inside then lock the drivers side (with the key itself) when leaving. Is it supposed to lock/unlock the doors remotely?

The other fob question is upon starting the motor. I turn the key, then hold the fob button for a second or 2, then turn the key and it starts, I think that's standard from what I've read but my issue came upon stalling it. Thankfully it was up my steep driveway and not on a road, the clutch pedal is taking some getting used to, so automatically I went to turn the key and it didn't turn over. It started when I used the fob again, my question - is this normal and if so, is there a time delay on starting it up again once turned off, or in my case stalled.

What the heck do I do when it happens on a inner city roundabout full of inpatient, stressed out city folk!! Just don't stall I guess will be the common response but is there any kind of choke or quicker workaround?

Many many thanks.

The key fob is for the alarm. It won't lock the doors. If you press the fob after having closed the doors the alarm will be turned on and the car will make a lot of noise in case of anyone opens the doors. The ignition is locked too without the fob.

Can't help you with Leeds I'm afraid. I can recommend Mini Division in Stockport though it will be a little drive away from you.

Congratulations with your Mini!

Cheers

See if AWS are still on yellow pages. I think its auto welding services. Ricky is the only guy in castleford area that i would be confident working on my car. He was based in brotherton but someone said he moved to knottingly (think he lives around there).

Theres also classic magic in harrogate but havent seen their work in person.

Thankyou both for your replies. Stockport is a bit far away really.

Do you run AWS? Or just share a name :) Looks like a small but tidy and passionate operation. The place in Harrogate also looks good from what I can find online.

I have absolutely nothing to do with AWS. I just used to use ricky when I lived in castleford for welding work on my mini. I moved away from that area 11 yrs ago, so dont know if hes still going or advertising etc.
