Hi

I'm looking at a car and the owner advised that there is an exhaust leak likely at a flange between sections near the downpipe. Car is a 95 1.3 with a stainless system

How many hours of labour am I looking at so I can factor that into the offer price? I assume it involves dropping the front subframe

Many thanks

Also I have a 400 mile drive to bring the car home. Is it unsafe to drive it on the motorway just to get it home? It is a fire risk?

no subframe dropping.

you will need part 20
http://www.minispare...s.aspx?2~12~116

how long depends on the condition of the bolts.

depends how bad. it could be loud.
and if it drops.......

It is a fire risk? - No ... just get car cover anyway rac aa ect to get you home. All classic owners owners should have it....

Next door just sent one to London about 250 miles 2.5k expensive I think.

Hi to Canada, rac aa is breakdown cover, still get some.

when/if you do fix the exhaust leak its a good idea to completely remove the bonnet. its only 4 nuts and will save you a bad back and a few bumps on the head.

If you do need to remove the bonnet, I recommend that you first paint around the hinge attachments. A quick squirt with a rattle can of a different colour to your car will do. That is so that you leave a mark so the bonnet can be refitted exactly as it was, which may save hours of adjustment. The fixing holes are elongated to allow adjustment, but if it is correct now it is as well to keep the fit as is.
