I made a repair on my rear quarter panel. But what is the lip folded around at the underside? see Arrow at picture "back".

Thanks in advance,

It's not folded around there are 2 pieces that meet I presume they are spot welded together from factory then you have a u shaped piece over the top like the seam strips.

Correct, with a couple of spot welds, plug welds are ok too. The cover strip is a legal requirement (no sharp edges). I remember advising someone a few years ago to make and fit one, which he promptly did, and made a good job of it too. It is easily done by folding a small piece of 0.9mm steel around something of about 2mm thickness in the vice. Or buy non-genuine part BMP129 from Somerford for £2.93. On principle I would make it myself and save the cash for things that are too complex to make at home.

Paint shell and finishing strip inside and out before fitting. I would suggest using an adhesive to fix it and keep water out.
