Dash Pot Gasket

Best Answer bigfish , 26 July 2016 - 11:22 PM
I purchased the car a year ago. Said to have rebuilt 1275 non s , rebuilt carb ect,... Basicly a shell and a massive amount of boxes of new parts. Fast forward 8 mths, car is now running but has terrible idle. I changed carb to intake gaskets , changed all vacume hoses, slightly better but no joy. I removed the carb, rebuilt it , and stoned the flange and put it back on car. I noticed in rebuild kit it was ,what I thought, missing the seal for dash pot. Which led me to this question . The best I can figure is said rebuilder of the carb to first time had no clue. I think the rubber seal used on the dash pot when I removed it was actually the float end cap seal.
I have removed this seal and would you believe the car has a great idle and runs like a new one. Thank you to all on this site that offered help. Just to check everything vacume wise I sprayed starter fluid all around the carb and no rpm increase. Lesson learned just because it has it when you dismantle an item, it is good to check it is suposed to have it!

It might be worth posting a picture with an arrow pointing to where the gasket is.
If there's one already there (and it's not o E you've put I yourself) there may be a reason for it, or zone confusion about where it is.
to be honest if we've understood your question correctly, I'm surprised there's a gasket that fits.

Usually I count your comments as far better than most, but in this case, Spider, I'm shaking my head in despair at your utter naivety. It's a Mini Of course it's been fiddled with by a previous owner.
(No offense intended!!!!!!)
