HI everyone,

 

can someone tell me what the symptoms are of a faulty water pump?

water leaks and over heating.

Or maybe just a squeaking noise, which will sooner or later be followed by leaking. Try wobbling the fan to see if the bearings are badly worn.

Usually

when the seal is gone water will leak through the small hole under the neck of the pump

this hole reveals that the SEAL is gone and that the pump must be changed

 

however it could leak from the gasket and may need to be reset with a new gasket and sealant

it could be leaking from a flared pipe or a cracked pipe, even a broken clamp

best is to run it while looking closely with a strong bright torch

 

a new pump and gasket is about 15 quid.  I have found permatex ultra black (which strangely enough is kind of grey)

is fine stuff and spread very thinly works well
