Been trying to attain a smooth tickover on my 1293 with HIF44 but noticed that when I switched the engine off there is a noticeable hiss from the servo pipe grommet (can't hear it when engine running).

How much effect would this have on the smooth running?

I did try some carb cleaner around it with engine running but couldn't hear any change in engine note.

I've recently had to block off the breather pipe on carb to improve the idle and running. Can't see any pictures anywhere of how this breather pipe works inside the carb. Is there a non-return valve hiding in there?

I had a leaky servo vacuum connection on my SPi. Caused idle issues (hunting around and a bit lumpy), new grommet sorted it out. Quite easy to do.

If you are in a hurry, deplete the vacuum by operating the brakes repeatedly, then put a squirt of silicone rubber around the valve. Don't start the engine again until the silicone is hard.

That may keep you going for many thousands of miles, or at least till a new part arrives.

Roo can you post a picture of exactly where that leak was I am interested

and as for the Spi, from my personal experience I cannot recommend too highly silicone vacuum hose

goodby those stupid rubber 90 degree joints

it's not expensive, easy to intstall and remove and you can get it in many colours - what's not to like ?

I can't get a picture as I am currently away from the car but the grommet I replaced is this one:

It's the larger diameter pipe going from the front of the servo to the inlet manifold.
