    Starting My Mini Up

Hi All,

I've just become a (somewhat reluctant) co-owner of a mini project. Meet Kitty:

Attached File  kitty-ebay.jpg   59.55K   11 downloads

This was my wife's first car, and she adored her, but after a few years of daily driving she didn't have the money for the necessary upkeep and (very) reluctantly sold her. Fast forward 10 years or so, with my wife's 30th birthday coming up, I'd been searching (in vain) to find out what happened to that car, with a vague idea of buying it back as the mother of all birthday presents.

I don't really believe in fate, but this May, two months before the big birthday, an ad popped up on eBay and there she was. Since this wasn't any old mini (at least to my wife) it didn't really matter what condition it was it in, we had to buy it. Some sneaking around and help from my Dad with a trailer, she was liberated from a little garage in Cornwall and safely ensconced in Dad's workshop.

It's had a lot of work done over the years, and mechanically it's in pretty good nick, especially thanks to an engine replacement about 20,000 miles ago. The bodywork not so much, but that seems to be par for the course! I'm about to start a thread to ask the minds here about what to do next, but I thought it would be helpful to start by documenting the backstory somewhere!
