Can anyone help me with identifying what all of the wires for the original rear fog light do? because I know theres 4 wires, and will be needing to only use 3 for a off/on (with led) toggle switch! :)

If you mean the original rocker, it has 2 wires for the switch and 2 for illumination. It must be wired to the headlights and have a telltale.

so would these just be positive and ground for both the switch light and the fog light? I am wanting to use the original wiring with the new switch ideally! So surely one of the switch light wires provides the 12v and the other a ground, and the others on the connection provide the wiring to the fog lamp positive and ground? If these are being used with the 3 prong switch, would the 12v input come from the original switch light wire, the accessory be the fog light positive and then possibly both grounds from both the switch light and the fog light to be used on the negative connection together? Or would they need to be separately grounded?

What switch do you have, 3 pins suggest crossover?

To be clearer, the rules say the fog must turn off with the headlights. The original does that by taking its power from the headlight supply - blue wire. The illuminated switches are run off the sidelights, the fog switch just has an extra coloured lens that's exposed when it's on. If you want a separate warning light just wire it in parallel to the fog light off the same switch pin.

You are also now allowed to use the rear fog light(s) with front fogs, side and tails, and no headlights. However there are other complications and a legal configuration would need relays, diodes and probably a momentary action switch, as it needs to reset itself to off if the sidelights are switched off.

Just mentioning it for completeness.

Just to mention, I am not thinking of changing the existing wiring configuration, just keeping it the same method as the standard rocker switch, but just wanting to implement it into an off/on 3 pin switch (with built in led)... Im sure there are loads of people who have already done it!

Can't think what the third pin's for? I changed my rockers for toggles without leds - only two pins - power from headlamp in, out to warning light (and then earth)

Rear fogs switch should be illuminated when they are on. Is part of MOT.

Hi Jaywalker,

I changed mine a while ago to the illuminated toggle switch but from memory, the toggle switch has one pin for live, one earth and one auxiliary (fog light). If I remember rightly, the wiring to the rocker switch had either the earth or live piggy-backed (can't remember which ones o you will need to check the wiring) to the switch illumination as it's powered separately. The toggle switch is illuminated internally when it's switched on so you can eliminate the second (piggy-backed) wire. I hope this helps.
