Metro 1275 Bhp Rating

Best Answer ACDodd , 22 August 2016 - 07:56 PM

It could be any where from 58 to 73bhp depending on the spec How well dialled in it is and condition. If well worn you'll be lucky to get past 60bhp. If its not tuned properly you'll be lucky to make more than 50!!

Hi guys

Can someone give me a rough BHP figure for a Metro 1275 engine with a Hif 44 carb and a sports exhaust?

Thanks
James

From memory early A series metro 1275 mid high 50's (?) A plus 63 ( the spi got to the same place by a different route!!) and the MG Metro was 72. Turbo was 90bhp though AR were allegedly a bit creative with their turbo test cars ( there was a lot of chatter at the time about Maestro Turbo press cars being  very non standard.)

The MG Metro engine was different in many regards to the standard 1275 and today would be a great start point for a non injected road mini?

Erm, not as easy as that many different specs and 4 cam types fitted. What one have you got?

Hi guys

Thank you for the quick responses!

Unfortunately the engine tag has been removed and I am unaware of the engine year.

The inlet manifold has mini sport printed on to it, is it possible that it has a stage 1 kit?

The exhaust is a 2" diameter centre exit.

I believe the rest of the block is standard (head + cam)

The engine is an a+ if that helps.

James

With a 2" exhaust system on an almost standard 1275 you're probably making less power than it left the factory with regardless of condition.

Have to be really big like a turbo.

Also when you say 2" how are you measuring it? There is a correct way and a incorrect way.
