Hi all,

just saw this picture on this site, other projects forum and wondered if it would work on a mini.

On this Rover metro there is a drain hole either side of the scuttle, below the windscreen, hidden behind the windscreen rubber.

Would a couple of small holes drilled in a mini scuttle work ?

Would work at rotting the plate that sits underneath the scuttle out quite well lol.

Why would it ?

Do metros rust there ? no, everywhere else yes but not there.

If it was correctly protected it wouldn't rust out.

There is a flat closer underneath the scuttle water would get trapped and sit there.

Could cut holes in that too I suppose but then junk would get thrown up off the wheels.

Another point is the scuttle from what I have seen rotts from the back up through the paint.

The area below the scuttle end is accessible from under the bonnet, as the top of the inner wing does not quite meet the scuttle. Above the wiper motor, and at the same place on the other side, you will find the gap. You can pump closed-cell structural foam in there, or lots and lots of rust preventative wax, spraying it in every direction so it coats the underside of the scuttle as well as the closing plate below.
