Wil H, got 150bhp out of his 998 using a GT17. But bear in mind this is a hill climb car. If you're wanting to go for big power then i'd suggest going large bore. Many people on turbominis are running a genuine 200bhp on a 1275 or some form of over bore. Some have done it with the gt17 and others have done it using the gt20

I will actually be able to go out to around 1140cc so a big bore block with a 1071 type crank will work. The plan is to build a terrapin using a a series engine like the original design, the goal is to build it for hill climbs, if I go for class J which is race car up to 1600cc car engine, with the 1.4 equivalency factor for turbos ( presuming that is allowed in that class ) should see me ok.
I just happen to know where an unused billet 1071crank is, so that might be handy.

interesting,
yeah as above Will was seeing 150hp wuith the 5 port head and 180 with the SC 7 port, if you can go short stroke large bore, then that could upen up 16v heads, just look where the project 64 guys have got to power wise... (circa 300hp for a 999 IIRC depeding on fuel)
head wise there is the Fiat 1.2 that some one really needs to try properly, although the 16v is not suited to high rpm due to the tappets, the 8v could make a good hi rpm head.

You can have huge amounts of power but keeping it together will be the issue, and reliability.
Im sure i could get 300 out of mine at the fly, but how long it would last!!!!! not long,
A short stroke 970 with a big blower and a 7-8 port on it injected will do 200hp plus at the fly
you really need to think on the purpose of the car, if your thinking road car long journeys, id think again.

Would be a shame to spend a lot of time and money developing a car that can't compete in the class intended although given that it is only speculation at present it may be worth the risk.
There was a lengthy discussion over at uphillracers on this issue if you want to have a look.

Just a side note, there has been some chatter in recent months about the equivalency factor being increased from 1.4 to 1.7 to coincide with FIA standards. This hasn't been included for next season by the MSA but as it has been a topic of discussion then it may or may not come about in the next few seasons.

Thanks for the heads up on this, going from past experience of MSA proposals on ROPS on road going kit cars, they will enforce it whatever anybody says, time to think of plan B, anybody got a 58mm stroke crank they don't want:)
