Hi all,

So I'm on the hunt for a Mini - and I must say I do like the thought of a Webasto (to my mind either that or straight tin top for me, don't want any other kind of sunroof).  I get of course noise will increase (though I wont be doing much motorway driving in it), then you have maintenance (not real change for a Mini in general of course :proud: ), possible leaks etc etc.  Just wondered what people thought in general??  This will be our second car kept in the garage for the weekend and some trips to work by me (25 mile round trip) when the other half has the big car (baby due in 10 days.. crickey!) but it will get used all year round (though I'll try to avoid rainy days).

I'm going to view this over the weekend - overpriced, probably basic restoration done to hide problems (and parts of the MOT history look a bit suspect), so I'm just using this as an excuse to have a look at the Webasto sunroof in the flesh (they are not far from me round the corner from by brother so I'm heading over that way anyway).

Nice looking car mind you from the pictures... famous last words ;D

It does look a nice example to be honest...

Not 100% sure if its a genuine Open Classic or a standard Mini (Mayfair) with a big hole in the roof...

I know not a lot about the Webasto sunroofs and how they fair in age, but the main thing I would be looking for is damp or indication of water ingress around the sunroof itself...

I have one in my daily MPi, love it. It doesnt increase noise by the way, when shut its as quiet as a steel topped Mini (got both). use it for 75 mile trips to work each day and love the roof, even on a colder day it transforms the Mini experience.

I had mine fitted to my 95 Mayfair about 3 years ago and I wouldn't be without it now, transforms the car.  Probably my favourite mod (over the tuned 1293cc!).

Hi all,

Well I'm sold on the webasto from feedback so far!  Yeah I did some checks anyway on this car and it is a real Open Classic - couple of the comments on latest MOT made me think iffy example but as said I'm just going to give it a look over out of interest on the roof in general.

First of all, congratulations on the impending arrival - and big respect to your misses allowing you to go classic car shopping at a time like that! - Maybe its the hormones? Do it quick before she changes her mind.  ;D

Loved the British Open since they were launched and look at them enviously, also any other mini with one fitted on a summer's day!

I have a very standard restored Super Deluxe Mk1 and I think a Webasto would be just fabulous on it - only thing is Im reluctant to modify it in any way from standard. Big step to take a tin opener to its roof.....

Good luck in your quest.
