Hi;
Anyone got any tips for fitting a headlining and front and rear screens on a 1982 Saloon?
Firstly The Headlining
I fitted the headlining and started to hold it in place with the door and rear side window seals but then had problems with fitting it at the front so removed it from the door and side window seals and instead started at the front by holding it in place with the Sun Visors (The holes where already in the headlining so I knew it was correct.
Next I fitted the Courtesy light as again the holes for the screws where already in the headlining then pulled it tight on the B posts.
Now before I fit the headlining under the Door and Side Window Trim I think I should fit the Rear Screen and Windscreen as these will ensure that the Headlining is correctly in line front to rear?
I am now ready to fit the Windscreen and the Rear Window, fitting the Headlining under the Windscreen seal should not be a problem as it is already being held in place with the Sun Visors but there is very little slack at the rear screen to fold over the window ledge.
My main question is how best to hold it in place?
When I removed it there was a ton of glue holding it onto the frame of the rear window but I would like to avoid having to do that if at all possible.
I thought I may clip it in place using Dash Rail Trim clips but wasn't sure about having these under the Window Seal as I thought they may cause water ingress and rust?
I have also thought about using a small amount of contact glue on the window ledge / headlining and hold this in place with pegs or clips of some sort until set and then remove it to fit the Screen Seal?
Secondly the Windscreens
Any tips on fitting the front and rear windscreens please?
Do I fit the rubber seal to the window frame on the car first and then fit the screen or do I fit the rubber seal to the screen and then fit this to the car?
I have some Silicone Grease Spray and some in a Tube should I use this to help the screen into the seal or should I use washing up liquid (seam to recall that washing up liquid may cause deterioration to the rubber?
Once the Screen is in I understand that I then fit the insert, again should I uses Silicone Grease?
I have the tool supplied for the rubbers, is this for the screen or the insert (can't remember)
Many thanks
