Hi all,

Have a mk3 running drums all round, the past couple of days its developed what I can best describe as a grinding metal sound from what I think is drivers side wheel.  It's speed related and braking or dipping the clutch makes no difference. I'm guessing maybe wheel bearing or cv joint? (no clicking on lock) however it seems to disappear when turning left but remains when turning right..weird.

Haven't had a chance to jack it up and check things out, I have had a quick look and can't see anything out of place or any leaks. Just wondering where to start looking or how to check cv joint/bearings

Thanks in advance

Jay.

jack it up and grab the wheel at 12 and 6 O'clock and pull push does it move.

if no pull the drums and check for loose stuff in side.

i think your instincts are right most likely wheel bearing but deffinatly just check for junk in the drum first. Turning the wheel and the noise changing is classic wheel bearing as it moves the load on the bearing back into the right place to silence the noise

Check that the back plate isn't scraping the drum.
